Diary of Events as NIEA Responds -
DAY 29 & 30          15, 16 -September
NIEA camp commended as "THE BEST RELIEF CAMP!" by WHO Officer. Dr. Lalan Roy, Team leader of WHO's surveillance team providing oversightand expertise to relief operations in four districts visited the NIEARelief Camp - or Agape Village. After preliminary visits to the campus, housing units, inspection of water and sanitation facilities, he declared that this was clearly the "Best Camp" in the entire region. Praise God for this positive report.
Attendence in the camp is crossing 265 and a school for children has been established. 72 kids take part in the daily educational program. Two trailors drove 5 hours one way to reach flood affected Araria district and into interior Kaneili where 200 Relief packages where distributed to 200 needy families in a circumference of about 9 kilometers. Eye-witnesses arrived at the base camp today, worn out after the extended drive but also content that their work was amongst the most needy who still live in areas where water levels are yet to recede.
Medical camps continue to service about 175 patients a day. Health education, immunization for children (measles, polio, tetanus) and Vitamin A are provided. Pregnant mothers/women are identified and cared for. Some units at Agape village are meant exclusively for them.
* Pray that the still stranded folks in several hamlets of distant Madhepura and Supaul
* Pray for provision of long term projects for the rehabilitation of especially children and the elderly who are left alone in the wake of this disaster.
